Wild coastlines - the Kimberley Region, wa

The highlight of travelling the Australian coast was undoubtedly sailing along Western Australia's Kimberley coastline. This region of ancient landscapes, harsh climate and some of the World's biggest tides was visually striking, remote and relatively uncharted. This image is of Llinase among the towering cliffs of the King George River.

Lizard Island

Lizard Island, in Far North QLD, offered dazzling beaches, spectacular reefs and a hike up Cook's Look, the peak traversed by its famous Captain namesake on his quest to escape the treachery of myriad uncharted reefs for the open sea.

masts broken 1.jpg

Not all smooth sailing

Failure of a stay resulted in a mast collapse - the ends had to be tied down immediately to stop swaying in the ocean swell. Later the ends were cut down and the masts repaired.
